Reflexiones 2025

My Jesus

My Jesus was not a gospel,   not a savior, not a holy man who forgives my sins.   My Jesus was not a church,   not its songs, its belief systems,   not a god who loves me unconditionally. My Jesus was not a set of values,   not laws I must obey to feel righteous.   Not prayers, good wishes, or the spreading of a holy name.   Not donations to a church,   not helping just because God said so,   not avoiding a list of sins. My Jesus was not Jesus.   He was the smile of someone who said hello.   The purr of my cats.   My will to fight. My support was my friends—   the ones who stayed when I fell into despair,   who forgave my wrongdoings without divine instruction.   My salvation was music,   the way I learned to shape anger and pain into words,   to walk until I could scream. My sins were forgiven in reflection, ...

No English no McDonalds

I hated that school. I hated the nuns, my classmates, the  Padre Nuestro  recited before every class. Catechism felt like an unbearable purgatory—a spiral of hollow reflections that numbed my mind. Miss Pilar, young and beautiful, sat me in a strange chair and abused her position as director to mock me. Every day, I walked the halls and patios of Montini with those kids—rich, but not rich enough—while my brown skin stood out against their whiteness. Every day, I faced a cesspool of fake smiles from pretentious families. The pretty girls ignored me, and I, a boy who drew silly pictures just to make friends, was left behind. There was a teacher—one whose words scarred me—who told me I was uglier than someone wearing a hideous Halloween mask. I wanted to cry, to escape, but when I got home, I found no refuge, no solitude, only a house full of people. I wanted to be alone. Alone. Forever alone. I never fit within those glass palace walls, never understood the rules of their compet...

On Liking Japan, and Why Don’t You Love Mexico?

Imagen
When someone I know asked me this question—or, more accurately, when it felt like they were questioning me—it was as though my cultural loyalty was on trial. They accused me of not respecting native symbols like traditional saint amulets or religious traditions as much as I do Japanese ones. I countered by saying I liked Mexican coffee and wine, but their retort—“those are products of globalization”—dismissed my words as superficial. I celebrate Día de Muertos. In fact, it’s the only holiday I truly care about because I can strip it of its Catholic connotations and adapt it to a personal reflection rooted in memory and association. Once, I gave this person a Japanese amulet, an  omamori , and told them not to open it. When they later admitted that they had, I silently felt upset. Later that month, they sent me a video criticizing Japan for exploiting foreign workers from impoverished countries. It felt like another attempt to impose their beliefs on me—something I dislike as much a...

Cirstal year

Imagen
The crystal year It’s that time of year again when I sit down and write my annual reflections. Usually, I’d post them on Facebook, but I deleted my account years ago. So, bear with me, my imaginary friends. This year has been a rollercoaster of emotions. A six-year cycle is coming to an end, and with it, all the stability I had. I’ve seen doubts creeping up, challenges looming, and trees made of fear. But the sky still feels blue. One of the best things about this year is that I finally healed. It’s not about growing up, it’s about finding the root cause of my bad habits and understanding how I manipulated people. I realized how I used guilt and shame to control others, both in passive and aggressive ways. It’s tough to see how you hurt people when you’re blinded by your own scars. I walked through my years, carrying a sword of guilt, hatred, and resentment. I pushed tears into people and had explosive tantrums because I was hurt and angry. But understanding that my behav...

Cha-iro 茶色

Children’s Day

Imagen
We are all and were children, awakened petals, gusts of sun that create freckles on our cheeks. And if you’re here, I know you’ve gone through hundreds of tragedies, that life turned its back on you, that nothing is worth it. But look closely around you, at the kittens and puppies that didn’t survive without the help of a mother, of a strange hand, of a smile that helped them get ahead. I know it’s hard, I know life has been more than difficult. But I swear that at some point there was someone who at least smiled when they saw you born: a doctor who thought you were a miracle, a nurse who joked because you cried more than usual, a person unrelated to your life who at some point passed you by only to later comment on how special you were. So cry, complain, curse all horizons, but remember that someone was happy to see you. We were all children. Some of us walk lives of tragedy, others do more or less well, and there are people with more wounds than their fine clothes tell. Still, rememb...

Día del niño

Imagen

A warrior

Imagen
She closes her eyes. Her heart beats, sweet in her soul, her hands cold, snow in the depths of her chest while her ankles move against the pressure of those chains. Everything seems cloudy, there are cries in the battlefield, the slaves want to run, and the explosions roar around while she sings to herself a pretty song. Then she falls, dirt on her face, tears of silver in her eyes, there couldn’t be a worse time. While they laugh and pretend that everything is alright: some with distant smiles, some with fake happy-go-lucky masks. Nevertheless she stands, the shackles of her past around her ankles, and she walks while grabbing the sword (the pursuit of never giving up). And she realizes…A warrior is not someone who never cries, who smiles all the time, who never complains, who never rests, who pretends. A warrior is someone like her, ever so human, ever so weak, ever so fragile; like a distant memory full of scars, like a moth in the dark that finds her way under the dim light of the ...

Reflexiones 2023: agradecimiento

Imagen

Reflections 2023: being grateful

Imagen
This year could easily have become one of the worst four years of my life along with the black year (1995), the gray year (2003) and the blue and crimson year (2016/2017). I was rejected by three persons who I thought had a romantic interest in me, I stopped talking to several important people, several friends left me or distanced themselves from me for reasons I consider fair; In addition, the cloud that crowned the storm of losses appeared under the death of my best friend: the great engineer Chava. So, loneliness became the constant emotion again, the shadow that wanders by my side, the lover of that night, of that empty bed: and next to loneliness slept lack of love, the intense hollow feeling in realistic conclusion that I have many flaws, and that I will never be loved because I am ugly, because I am not stable enough, because I don’t deserve it. And I think it’s easy, very simple, like falling into a romance in a bottle, blaming yourself, crying on your knees, embracing hell; be...

The Rain and the Window: Anxiety of Abandonment

The Rain and the Window: Anxiety of Abandonment The boy spent hours by the window in his room. No one would see him; no one cared, and he didn't even want to be seen while unleashing his imagination to conquer loneliness. His broken voice couldn't compete with the taunts, and his arms couldn't face the onslaught of the elements. Nevertheless, day after day, he waited patiently by the window in his room. The rain came, the television told stories of zodiacal warriors, and he remained motionless at the edge of the window, gazing at the street. Hours passed, then weekends, and sometimes even weeks, but his waiting never ceased. Occasionally, he blocked out all noise and isolated himself from distractions, not to miss the sweet jingle of the keys at the entrance door, signaling someone's arrival. And so, time passed, keeping his thoughts, longing for the company of a cat that didn't know it was supposed to love him and always returned with a different body to keep him f...
